Murky Dense Breasts and Murky Ethics

WOMEN are Left Guessin’ with 1 in 10 Mammograms

1 in 10 women receiving mammograms have breasts so dense that the mammograms is likely not to show a cancer.

The density that makes the mammogram hard to read at least doubles the woman’s lifetime risk of cancer from around 1 in 8 women to 1 in 4.

There is no disclosure when a woman is receiving a mammogram that is likely not to show a cancer.

We already know who these women are. They have Extremely Dense Breast tissue.

We would not sell cars, mortgages or insurance this way. Why do we sell mammograms this way?

About 40 million mammograms were sold in 2021 for around $100 each. This is a $4 billion business per year.

At least 4 million women each year need to be told that their mammogram might not be enough to get them an early breast cancer diagnosis.
